Idlib: seven IDP camps partially damaged in rainstorm

At least 130 tents of seven IDP camps in Idlib province have been damaged due to a rainstorm that swept northern Syria the past 72 hours, monitoring groups said Sunday.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights appealed to international relief organizations, including the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) , to quickly respond to the basic needs of the camps, and to provide camp administrations with a number of additional tents to be used in emergency situations.

These recurring conditions exacerbate the suffering of the displaced, forcing them to face many difficulties, SNHR added.

A report by OCHA on April 20 documented the increased need to support northwestern Syria.

According to the report, one-fifth of the displaced people in northern Aleppo and about 28% in Idlib province live critically under the minimum expenditure basket for survival, in terms of basic food and non-food items.

The Syrian conflict, which led to the loss of at least 500,000 lives and displaced more than 13,2 million people,  began in 2011 after the Assad regime brutally cracked down on peaceful pro-democracy protests.
