Turkish strikes spark fire in Syrian oil field

Huge fires erupted at an oilfield in northeast Syria after they were targeted by Turkish airstrikes.

Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the facility in Qahtaniya on Wednesday.

In recent days, Turkey has launched a barrage of airstrikes on suspected militant targets in northern Syria and Iraq, in retaliation for a deadly November 13 bombing in Istanbul that Ankara blames on the Kurdish groups.

The groups have denied involvement in the bombing and say Turkish strikes have killed civilians and threatened the fight against the Islamic State group.
