At least ten regime army troops forces and Russian-backed militants were killed on Sunday evening in a surprise attack by the Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham in the northeastern countryside of coastal Latakia province.
Military sources told Zaman al-Wasl that the "Khaled bin al-Walid Brigades, a HTS affiliate, carried out an operation within military points belonging to the regime forces and the Russian-backed militias on the summit of the "Taurus" mountains in the "Rabee'a" axis northeastern Latakia.
The sources confirmed that the operation resulted in the death of 10 regime forces and wounding of others, in addition to the destruction of a field artillery of "152" caliber and the seizure of several individual weapons from the points on which they carried out the raid.
During the past months, "Tahrir al-Sham" had carried out several attacks against military sites of the regime forces and militias linked to Russia and Iran in the countryside of Idlib, Hama, Aleppo, and Latakia. These operations resulted in the killing and wounding of dozens of regime forces, especially since the operations escalated following the Turkish rapprochement with the regime.
