More families glide under poverty line in northern Syria: relief group

The Syria Response Coordinators Team confirmed the high percentage of families under the poverty line, which contributed to raising the hunger limit in the northwestern regions of Syria.

The relief team said that the poverty limit rose to the value of 5,018 Turkish liras, while the extreme poverty limit rose to the value of 3,790 Turkish liras, and the poverty limit increased to new levels by 1.22%, which raises the percentage of families under the poverty line to 89.24%.

The response coordinators added that the hunger limit increased to a new level, with an increase of 1.34%, which raises the percentage of families that reached the hunger limit to 39.64%.

The team stressed the increase in unemployment rates among civilians at very high rates, as unemployment indicators increased from March by 2.3%, after more than 11,372 families lost their sources of income as a result of the recent earthquake in the region, and the general unemployment rate reached 87.3% on average (considering that day workers within the aforementioned categories).

The relief group pointed to the existence of a clear deficit in the purchasing power of civilians and their survival in a state of failure and inability to cope with the permanent changes in prices, which exceeds the carrying capacity of civilians to secure daily needs.
