IS threatens to behead 10 Americans captives if U.S. conducts airstrikes

(Zaman Al Wasl- Special)- Islamic State militant group has threatened to behead 10 American captives in Iraq if the United States will conduct its planned airstrikes on territory it controls in Iraq and Syria, well-informed source told Zaman al-Wasl.

IS threat follows the release of IS videos showing the beheadings of two American journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff, last month.

IS has also denied withdrawal news circulated by media outlets, according to the source, saying the proclaimed Caliphate is making some tactics to protect its fighters.

Islamic State has gone underground in its stronghold, disappearing from the streets, redeploying weapons and fighters, and cutting down its media exposure, Reuters said.

Zaman al-Wasl reporter said that IS fighters have evacuated their bases in al-Bukamal town on the border with Iraq last week.

The Islamic State's campaign of extreme violence and abuses against both civilians and rival opposition groups has prompted a backlash across rebel-held Syria, where many hope the US air campaign next door will be extended, according to AFP.

Since joining the conflict in Syrian in spring 2013, IS has seized control of almost all of Raqa and Deir Ezzor provinces where it has waged a devastating offensive since June.
