Palestinian refugee Basel Mustafa Al-Khatib, 35, from Sbeineh camp in Damascus countryside, confirmed the news of his forcible deportation by the Lebanese authorities to the Syrian territories.
The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria quoted Al-Khatib as saying that he had not entered the Syrian territory until the moment, appealing to all humanitarian and human rights organizations, the United Nations and UNRWA, to work for his admission again to Lebanon, out of fear for his life.
Al-Khatib added that the members of the Lebanese army checkpoint in the Mejdlaya area of Zgharta district in the city of Tripoli arrested him last Wednesday because he did not have a regular residence, as he was detained in the army barracks from 11:30 in the morning until 9 in the evening with a number of Syrian refugees, and after that They were transferred to a barracks in the Beddawi area.
Then the Palestinian refugee was transported with about 80 Syrian refugees in a large freight car to the town of Shadra from the villages of Akkar district, after which they were forcibly entered on Thursday, April 27, 2023, to the Syrian border.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed that it refuses to forcibly return Palestinian-Syrian refugees in Lebanon to Syria, stressing its refusal to return any forcibly displaced Palestinian-Syrian in Lebanon to Syria according to the decision of the Supreme Defense Council in Lebanon related to the deportation of refugees who entered the country in a manner Illegal after April 24, 2019.
The UN agency also called on all countries to abide by the principle of non-refoulement, as a principle of customary international law and international human rights law, stressing the right of the Palestinian refugees displaced from Syria to Lebanon to make voluntary and considered decisions to return voluntarily or not.
