Tahrir al-Sham arrests member of Free Lawyers Syndicate near Aleppo

Tahrir al-Sham's security apparatus arrested on Friday a member of the Free Lawyers Syndicate in northwest Syria amid calls for his immediate release, the opposition's group stated on Saturday.

The Free Lawyers Syndicate said in a statement that members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) at the (Al-Ghazawiya crossing) on Friday afternoon arrested lawyer Abdel Aziz Darwish, who is the secretary of the branch council.

The Free Lawyers Syndicate in Aleppo was arbitrarily arrested when he was going to the western countryside of Aleppo, which is controlled by the Turkish-backed National Army, to visit his sick mother.

The HTS General Security members took him and his car to an unknown destination without regard for his rights and his health condition as he was a heart patient.

The Syndicate considered that this act is considered a crime of arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance without taking into account the slightest considerations for the immunity of the lawyer and human dignity.

The Syndicate held the HTS responsible for the arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance of the lawyer and placed them before their responsibilities regarding his safety and freedom.

The union also called for a decision to release him immediately and unconditionally, reminding all security, military and revolutionary forces to shoulder their revolutionary, moral and legal responsibilities to work for the immediate release of the colleague, calling on trade unions and human rights organizations in civil society to take urgent action to advocate for the detained colleague.
