Rebels creep into Damascus, loyalists fear mounts

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Rebels have made sudden advances inside Damascus, pounding Bashar al-Assad’s forces in al-Doukhaniya and al-Qabbas neighborhoods, activists said.

The general command of rebels in Eastern Ghouta suburbs said in statement posted online that 16 Syrian army troops, including colonel, have been killed near al-Doukhaniya neighborhood.

Meanwhile, activists reported a state of panic and confusion amid forces loyal to Assad.

Sources said many Alawite families have fled back to their hometown in the coastal area, Latakia and Tartus cities.

Analysts say the mounting fears are not just a result of rebels’ creeping to Damascus, but they are afraid of the American airstrikes which authorized recently by President Barack Obama. “Storming Islamic State bastions and supporting rebels will lead definitely to defeat Assad forces.”

Days ago, regime airstrikes for the first time had rocked al-Midan, capital’s ancient neighborhood after engaging with rebels in al-Haqle cemetery and al-Qa’ah area, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Opposition activists say fall of the capital might be at hand; just we are waiting the American airstrikes to make our dreams come true.

Now, more than 191,000 people killed and over 9 million forced to flee their homes.
