Moderate rebel groups in Eastern Ghouta merge in new armed faction

 

(Zaman Al Wasl)- 10 moderate rebel groups in Eastern Ghouta suburbs near Damascus have announce in video statement forming of ‘Nation Army’ as a new armed faction seeks to topple Basher al-Assad regime as well to protect civilians and cooperating with armed opposition groups.

Rebels’ eagerness to unite comes to surface as the United States plans for training and arming moderate Syrian rebels to battle Islamic State militants.

President Barack Obama plans to use the congressional authority to "degrade and destroy" violent Islamic State militants who have been taking control of large parts of Iraq and Syria - moves that U.S. officials argue threaten America's national security, according to Reuters.

 Also, rebels of embattled suburbs of Eastern Ghouta are trying to confront regime army's campaign to crush their bastions which began in March 2013.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of civilians are still living in the Eastern Ghouta area, suffering from severe food shortages in many towns and villages, as well as bearing the brunt of daily shelling.

Syria's three-year conflict has killed more than 191,000 people, a third of them civilians, and caused millions to flee.
