(Zaman Al Wasl)- A joint campaign by Syrian activists in Idlib, Homs and Aleppo calling for judging the Interim Government over the spoiled vaccines that led death of dozens of children in Idlib countryside.

Mohammed Jadaan, one of the campaign organisers said that activists would carry banners demanding punishment of all participants in the vaccination campaign.

Moreover, Jadaan added that they would distribute brochures to increase awareness among people about vaccines and would collect signatures demanding to openly punish the corrupted people.

The activist mentioned that they will establish a committee from inside Syria activists, works on choosing suitable skilled people to participate in the campaigns organised by the Interim Government, because sometimes people under 18 years old work on vaccination. He explained that they would raise a banner says “a child vaccinates children” and will carry photos and proofs that children did some vaccination.

Furthermore, the activist is trying to have a permission from the Turkish Authorities to organise a sit-in before the Interim Government headquarter.

It worth mentioning that initial outcomes of the investigation showed that main reason behind the children’s deaths was a muscle relaxant called “Atracurium” used in anesthesia was used as dissolve the vaccine, instead of the accompanied dissolvent, which led to complete paralysis to children. Investigation showed that sort of similarity between the shape and size of the dissolvent the vaccine and Atracurium , and the mistake was that Muscle relaxant was put in the same fridge designated for vaccine in the hospital.

Investigation showed that vaccine was store properly and was provided by the World Health Organisation “WHO” via the Turkish Red crescent and was not expired.

It is sort of irresponsibility to keep talking about spoiled vaccines, and going ahead to organise campaign base on false information and facts. The drawbacks of such activities could be more than advantages, as it could be harmful to children first, as their parents would lose trust in vaccination and leave their children unvaccinated, which risks outbreaks of some infectious disease if vaccination rate in community did not reach to a particular value. If trust in vaccination and the interim government get lost, it could be difficult to regain it again, and children would pay the price first.

Campaigns to assure people and encourage them to join the following campaigns are needed, and proofs about lessons been learnt must be shown to people, and assure them that mistakes would not happen again.
