Russian airstrike kills two toddlers and 3 women in Idlib

Russian warplanes carried out a massacre in the Ahl Sarqib displacement camp on the outskirts of the village of Al-Hamamah in western Idlib on Tuesday, the rescue White Helmets agency reported.

At least 5 civilians killed, including 2 infants and 3 women, and  5 civilians injured, including an infant and 2 children, in an indefinite toll. Most of the victims were from a single family.

Idlib's front lines have been relatively calm since Russia and Turkey, who support rival sides in the country’s conflict, reached a cease-fire in March 2020, ending a three-month Russian-backed government offensive against insurgents, according to AP.

As the conflict, now in its 13th year, reached a stalemate, the Syrian government reclaimed large swathes of lost territory with the help of its key allies in Russia and Iran in recent years.

The U.N. estimates that some 300,000 civilians died during the first decade of the uprising, while half of the pre-war population of 23 million were displaced.
