Coalition refutes Member statements call for joint government with Assad

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Secretary General of Syrian National Coalition has refuted statements carried by veteran opposition figure, calling for joint government with Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Mr. Nasr al-Hariri, NC Secretary General,  said in statement submitted to NC members and seen by Zaman al-Wasl that "Nazir al-Hakim’s initiative for a political solution in Syria is no more than a personal approach which is not representing the key opposition group.”

“We are committed to our demand to topple the war criminal Bashar al-Assad and to reach a transitional governing body with full powers,” Hariri said.

Al-Hakim’s vision, as he called it, includes 10 main points. The most controversial point is allowing Assad and 100 aides to leave Syria in a maximum period of 3 months after forming a National Government with full executive powers, politically and militarily.

Al-Hakim, the old Guard of Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and secretary of NC's Political Commission, called to take into account the latest developments in Syria and the region, especially the U.S.-led International Coalition against the Islamic State militant group in Iraq and Syria.

Social media activists said, we can understand the call of the ‘mercurial man’ as he belongs to a mercurial group’. Muslim Brotherhood members were involved in interest conflict with secular opposition figures since the revolution erupted in March 2011, they want to escape with some benefits since the new scenario has no future for them but for moderate rebels and active rebel groups.
