Missile attack rocks US base south of Al-Hasakah

An armed group loyal to Iran said on Tuesday that it had targeted a military base of the US-led International Coalition in the northeastern al-Hasakah province.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, run by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, said in a statement on Tuesday evening that it targeted the American forces' base in the al-Shaddadi area, south of al-Hasakah city with missiles, claiming that the strike hit the targets accurately.

The Iraqi group has claimed responsibility for more than 54 attacks against  the International Coalition bases in northern and eastern Syria since October 17, using drones and ground missiles, which resulted in the injury of several American soldiers. Yet, no casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command announced (Centcom) said on Tuesday, the implementation of 79 operations in Iraq and Syria against the Islamic State group during the months of September and October, which led to the killing of 13 ISIS fighters and the arrest of 78 others.

The Centcom stated on the social media platform X that it carried out 26 operations in Syria alone during the two months, 23 of which were joint with coalition forces, and those operations led to the killing of 3 ISIS fighters and the arrest of 45 others, according to the statement.

Observers say that the escalation of Iranian-backed groups came under the direction of Tehran in response to the absolute American support for Israel in its war on Gaza since last October 7. An aggression that left more than 14,200 people dead in the besieged sector. In turn, Iran denies its relationship with the Iraqi attacks on American bases.
