Islam Army mourns commander killed in Douma near Damascus


(Zaman Al Wasl) – Commander of Eastern Ghouta rebels mourned in statement posted online, killing of senior commander in Douma, the rebel-held city northeast Damascus on Sunday.

Zahran Alloush, the commander Islam Army and United Military Command of Eastern Ghouta suburbs, said Bashir al-Ajwa, spokesman and senior commander of ‘Osoud al-Ghouta’ brigade has been killed by an armed group in his home town of Douma.

Alloush called to open an investigation to holding the perpetrators to account.

Douma, the city which has been under suffocating army siege for more than a year, has been facing mounting pace of assassinations in the last two months for its rebel commanders.

Three days ago, unknown gunmen assassinated a commander in a rebel brigade affiliated to al-Ummah Army in the city of Douma, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights

Meanwhile, at least 191,000 people have been killed in Syria's conflict; more than double the figure documented a year ago and probably still an under-estimate, according to the United Nations.
