Intensive negotiations under way on possible second Gaza truce: Reports

Intensive Qatari and Egyptian-mediated talks are under way for a possible second Gaza truce, under which Hamas would return some captives in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian prisoners, a person briefed on the matter told Reuters on Wednesday.

According to the source, envoys are looking at which hostages and prisoners may go free in any Gaza deal, while Israel insists that women and infirm male hostages be included on the release roster. The source added that Palestinians serving time in Israeli prisons for severe felonies may also be included.

Alongside these developments, Hamas has said in a statement that its leader, Ismail Haniyeh, will hold talks with Egyptian officials, mostly on developments in Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.
