Two Iraqi militia members killed in ISIS attack in Deir ez-Zor desert

Members of the Iraqi militia supported by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard were killed and wounded on Friday after their car was targeted by Islamic State militants in the Deir ez-Zor desert, eastern Syria.

Informed sources told Zaman al-Wasl that two members of the Iraqi Harakat al-Nujaba militia were killed on Friday, in addition to two other members being wounded with varying injuries, after their military vehicles were targeted with individual weapons, in the Shula badia desert in the southern western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

Two members of the Hezbollah militia were killed on Friday, in addition to the wounding of a third member who was with them, after a military vehicle was targeted by ISIS on the Athriya-Khanaser desert road in the southeastern countryside of Aleppo.

ISIS attacks against the positions of the Syrian regime forces and the militias supported by Russia and Iran in the Syrian desert, specifically in the Homs Valley, Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa, have increased since the beginning of the current year 2024, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries, without the combing campaigns carried out by Russia and Iran being able to curb the activity of ISIS sleeper cells.
