Russia says captured another eastern Ukraine village

Russia’s defense ministry said Thursday its forces had captured a small village in Ukraine’s east as part of its advance in the Donetsk region toward the logistics hub of Pokrovsk.

Russian troops “liberated” the village of Maksymilyanivka, near the town of Kurakhove, which lies south of Pokrovsk, the defense ministry said.

Russia is concentrating its offensive on the area of the industrial town of Kurakhove with Moscow’s troops at its gates, just a few kilometers from the center.

Ukraine’s military said Thursday morning its troops had halted 15 attacks near Pokrovsk.

Thousands of Ukrainian civilians living in frontline areas have fled in recent months, with authorities in Pokrovsk accelerating evacuation efforts.

Kyiv meanwhile has controlled swathes of Russia’s Kursk region for more than two months.
