Turkish army removes border wall with Kobani, ahead of expected attack on Kurdish forces

The Turkish army removed the separation wall on Monday night from the borders of the town of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani) in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, northern Syria, in preparation for launching a large-scale operation against the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Informed sources told Zaman al-Wasl that the Turkish army removed part of the border wall on Monday evening from the side of the city of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani), which is controlled by the SDF, coinciding with the sending of military reinforcements from the Turkish army and the Syrian National Army (SNA) to the area, in preparation for launching a military operation aimed at controlling the city and its countryside.

The sources confirmed that the reinforcements included tanks, armored personnel carriers, and rocket launchers, in addition to sending combat brigades from the factions of the Syrian National Army, amid intensive flights of Turkish warplanes and reconnaissance in the skies of the area.

On December 8, the Turkish-backed factions took control of the city of Manbij, the most prominent stronghold of the Kurdish forces in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, and the town of Tal Rifaat in the northern countryside of Aleppo on December 1, after battles that resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.
