Lists of 4,800 detainees who died under torture in Military Investigation Branch

Zaman al-Wasl obtained lists of names including 4,800 detainees who died under torture or due to illness as a result of medical negligence, within the investigation branch of the Military Police Administration in the Syrian capital, Damascus, southwest Syria.

The date of death of the detainees dates back to between 2017 and 2018, according to the lists, signed by Brigadier General Samir Ali Nizam, Commander of the Military Police in Damascus.

The identity cards and passports of the dead detainees were handed over by Officer Hassan Khalil to the General Secretariat of Civil Records and the Traffic Department.

The lists include detainees who were killed under torture and died due to health problems inside the detention centers, from various Syrian cities and governorates, most of them from Damascus, Idlib, Hama, Homs, Daraa, Quneitra and Aleppo, in addition to the presence of Palestinians on the lists.
