Rebels storm strategic intelligence headquarters near Damascus


(Zaman Al Wasl)- Rebels' latest advance in the strategic town of Harasta, 4 miles away from the capital center, has startled Syrian regime armed troops since they found their stubborn headquarters of air-forces intelligence being under constant heavy shelling.

Opposition activists said Thursday that rebels have pressed slow advances in Eastern Ghouta suburbs, storming the headquarters of regime’s air force intelligence in Harasta city.

Damascus Media Center said that rebels backed by Nusra Front fighters have captured many building and barracks affiliated to basher al-Assad’s forces in Harasta, where most of the soldiers had fled their checkpoints in response to the unexpected assault.

Activists said Gen Brigadier Ali Abdul Karim Ibrahim was killed in rebels’ assault on Mukhabart stronghold in Harasta.

Also, the General Command of Eastern Ghouta said 8 soldiers have been killed by rebels in Jobar Neighborhood.

The capital surrounding suburbs have witnessed fierce clashes between regime forces and rebels in Irbin where 7 Islamic fighters have been killed, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Also the clashes continued between the two sides in al-Dokhania near the capital center, according to the Observatory.

In relevant development, activists and rebel sources said at least 37 army troops were killed on Monday by rebels near Adra al-Omalia, a town northeast of Damascus, which they took control of it days ago.

Rebels said the skirmishes still taking place near the town which was recaptured by Syrian army on Thursday, with death toll reached 37 in 5 days.
