"Military operations" destroy one million Captagon pills in Damascus security square

The Military Operations Department destroyed on Wednesday huge quantities of narcotics that were seized in the security square in the Kafr Sousa area, in the Syrian capital Damascus, Zaman al-Wasl correspondent reported..

The destroyed materials include about one million Captagon pills, bags of hashish, in addition to other types of narcotic pills.

Sources confirmed to Zaman al-Wasl that these materials were found in "Branch 291" and "Branch 293" inside the security square in the Syrian capital Damascus, especially since this operation comes within a series of efforts made by the new Syrian authorities to cleanse security and military sites of remnants of the defunct regime, which exploited them to store and trade banned substances.

This step comes in the context of uncovering dozens of Captagon and narcotics laboratories and warehouses that were spread in sites affiliated with the "Fourth Division" led by "Maher al-Assad", the brother of the ousted Syrian regime president Bashar al-Assad. These sites were concentrated in strategic areas such as Yaafour and the vicinity of Douma, in addition to other sites within the capital Damascus .

These sites were systematically managed to manufacture and distribute drugs, which contributed to financing the military operations of the former regime and its associated networks.

Evidence was also found showing the involvement of prominent figures in the drug trade, which was a major source of illicit income for the deposed regime.

Since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime on December 8, 2024, Syria has not recorded any drug smuggling operations to neighboring countries or to Europe. This unprecedented development confirms that the former regime was the main source of these operations, in coordination with regional networks, most notably the Hezbollah militia (Lebanese).
