Violent clashes erupted between the Turkish-backed" Syrian National Army and the US-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Tishreen Dam area in the countryside of the city of Manbij, east of northern Aleppo province, activists said on Thursday.
Local residents told Zaman al-Wasl that the clashes between the two sides were at their most intense, resulting in deaths and injuries among the "SDF" militia, without any significant progress on the ground for either side.
The sources added that the battles coincided with intensive flights of Turkish reconnaissance planes in the area's skies, amid both sides bringing military reinforcements to the contact lines, indicating the possibility of the situation escalating in the coming days.
These developments come amid ongoing tension in the region, as clashes between the conflicting parties are repeated, in light of each party's efforts to strengthen its influence in areas near the Tishreen Dam, which enjoys strategic importance.
