The Syrian News Agency "SANA" quoted Dr. Muhammad Taha Al-Ahmad as saying that the government will work to encourage farmers to use modern technologies in the field of agricultural production, which will contribute to reducing production costs and increasing productivity.
Al-Ahmad added that "one of our priorities in the next stage is to reduce production costs by focusing on and supporting irrigation projects, which are the basis for increasing production and achieving economic feasibility."
The agricultural sector in Syria has witnessed a major collapse in recent years due to the war waged by the Assad regime against the Syrians, which has increased the poverty rate, which the United Nations estimated at more than 90 percent of the population.
