The northern borders of Jordan witnessed clashes on Sunday morning between Jordanian border guards and smugglers who tried to infiltrate from Syrian territory into the Kingdom in the area of responsibility of the Eastern Military Region.
The clashes resulted in the death of one of the smugglers, while the rest fled back into Syrian territory, according to what was reported by Al-Mamlaka TV.
The channel indicated that the smugglers took advantage of the unstable weather conditions and the heavy fog that covered the border area.
However, Jordanian forces confronted them by applying the rules of engagement, and were able to seize large quantities of narcotics, in addition to various weapons, including two automatic rifles and a pistol. The seized items were handed over to the competent authorities.
During the clashes, a Jordanian border guard officer was injured and was airlifted to the medical city for treatment, where his general condition was reported to be stable.
This is the second incident of its kind on the Syrian-Jordanian border since the fall of the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad on December 8, 2024, with the increase in smuggling attempts that Jordanian forces are confronting.
