The Syrian General Security announced today, Friday, the arrest of Brigadier General "Atef Najib", the former head of the Political Security Branch in Daraa, who arrested children in Daraa in 2011 for writing the phrase "Your turn has come, Doctor (Bashar al-Assad)" on the walls of their school.
Najib tortured the children and pulled out their fingernails, and did not stop there, but rather insulted Daraa dignitaries who demanded the release of the children, which sparked anti-regime demonstrations.
The Director of General Security in Latakia, Lieutenant Colonel Mustafa Knefati, said that the General Security Directorate in the province, in cooperation with the military forces, arrested Brigadier General Atef Najib, who held the position of head of the Political Security Branch in Daraa.
Knefati added that Najib is one of those involved in committing crimes against the Syrian people, and he was transferred to the relevant authorities to be tried and held accountable for the crimes he committed against the Syrian people, indicating that this step comes within the framework of the authorities' efforts to hold accountable those involved in violations against the Syrian people, and to enhance security and stability in the region.
