Syrian security forces seized weapons shipments prepared for smuggling to Lebanon via land routes in the Talkalakh area of Homs province, the Syrian Interior Ministry said on Sunday.
According to a statement by the ministry, the Border Security Administration confiscated several weapons shipments after monitoring and tracking operations, noting that they were prepared for smuggling via illegal routes.
This development comes after a meeting between the Chief of Staff of the Syrian Army, Ali al-Naasan, and the Director of the Cooperation and Coordination Office of the Lebanese Army, Michel Boutros, on January 23, to discuss border control mechanisms between the two countries.
The Syrian-Lebanese border is characterized by a geographical overlap that extends for about 375 km, without a fence or clear signs separating the two countries, which facilitates smuggling operations of all kinds.
