Al-Sharaa: Syria will not be subject to individual rule, and will be managed according to the rule of law, with a wide scope for freedoms

President Ahmed al-Sharaa confirmed that the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime within 11 days was the result of five years of careful planning in the northern Idlib province, which included unifying factions and absorbing different forces.

In an interview with Syria TV on Monday, al-Sharaa explained that this step represented the real beginning of the reform process in Syria.

Al-Sharaa stressed that Syria will not be subject to individual rule, but will be run according to the rule of law, with a wide scope for freedoms. He stressed the importance of transitional justice in prosecuting those responsible for crimes against the Syrian people, especially prominent figures in the former regime.

The newly appointed president indicated that some parties advised him not to open the battle for fear of repeating the tragedies of Gaza in Idlib, but he stressed that the most important thing was the demise of the former regime, which allowed for the reconstruction of the Syrian state.

Regarding the Syrian reality after the liberation of Damascus, al-Sharaa confirmed that the first steps were to preserve state institutions and avoid quotas in the distribution of positions, with a focus on appointing competent people in the new government.

He added that within only two months after the liberation, various segments of Syrian society and expatriates were met to hear their opinions about the future of the country.

Regarding security, Al-Sharaa stressed that controlling weapons and restricting them to the state is a top priority, stressing that the factions participating in the "Deterrence of Aggression" battle showed great discipline that contributed to preserving civil peace. He also pointed to the ongoing communication with the southern governorates and the participation of factions from Sweida in the operations.

On the military side, Al-Sharaa indicated that the Syrian army had previously suffered from disintegration as a result of narrow loyalties, but it is currently working to form a national army that represents all Syrians.

He revealed that a number of defected officers have joined the Ministry of Defense, pointing to international appreciation of the new Syrian military capabilities.

As for the economic level, Al-Sharaa announced plans to restructure the economy and get rid of corruption, with the formation of an economic team that includes local and international expertise to develop an economic policy for the next ten years.

The Syrian president considered that the destruction witnessed by Syria represents a great investment opportunity, while stressing the need to provide a suitable investment environment.

He stressed that Syria will remain a republic with a parliamentary system and an executive government, and that there is a preparatory committee working on organizing a national conference to prepare a constitutional declaration. He reiterated that reaching presidential elections will take between 4 and 5 years.
