Hamas publishes names of 183 Palestinian detainees to be released Saturday

The Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, published the names Friday of 183 Palestinian detainees who are slated to be released Saturday in exchange for three Israeli captives in the Gaza Strip.

It includes 18 detainees serving life sentences and 54 serving high-term sentences in Israeli jails and seven will be deported outside Palestine, according to the list that was published by the group's Prisoners' Information Office.

Regarding political affiliations, the list showed that 38 detainees are members of Hamas, 30 from Fatah, one from the Islamic Jihad and three with no political affiliations.

In addition, the list includes the release of 111 Palestinians who were arrested by the Israeli army in Gaza after Oct. 7, 2023, during is genocidal war.

Earlier Friday, the armed wing of Hamas announced the names of three Israeli captives to be released as part of the fifth batch of prisoner swaps with Israel under a ceasefire deal.

Palestinian human rights groups estimate that Israel holds more than 10,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 600 serving life sentences.

A ceasefire agreement took effect in Gaza on Jan. 19, halting Israel’s genocidal war, which has killed more than 47,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and left the enclave in ruins.

Under the first phase, the agreement stipulates the gradual release of 33 Israeli captives from Gaza -- living and deceased -- in exchange for 1,700 to 2,000 Palestinian and Arab detainees.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
