UN: More than 270,000 Syrians have returned home since Assad's fall

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced that more than 270,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their country after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

This came in a statement issued by the commission, early Friday morning, regarding the return of Syrian refugees to their country.

The statement stated that more than 270,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their country after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024.

At least 5.5 million Syrian refugees live in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt, according to a statement by the UN organization.

The statement said that more than 825,000 internally displaced persons have returned to their areas since last December.

In early January, the UNHCR announced that more than 115,000 Syrians have returned to Syria from Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon since December 8.
