About 2,351 Syrians are waiting in Lebanese prisons for the implementation of the agreement concluded between the two countries during the visit of former Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati to Damascus on January 11, where he met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
At that time, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the start of procedures to return all Syrian detainees from Lebanon. These detainees constitute about 35% of the total number of prisoners in Lebanon.
Despite the passage of more than a month since the agreement, the handover process has not been implemented, which prompted more than 100 Syrian detainees in Roumieh Central Prison to go on an open hunger strike for 6 days, in protest against the delay in their return to Syria to complete their trial before the judicial authorities there.
