US airstrike in Idlib kills al Qaeda affiliate leader

The security official of the Hurras al-Din organization was killed on Friday as a result of targeting a drone belonging to the US-led international coalition forces in the countryside of Idlib province, near the Syrian-Turkish border.

Informed sources told Zaman al-Wasl that Talha Birqadar, the internal security official of the al-Qaeda affiliate group, who is accused of pledging allegiance to al-Qaeda, was killed on Friday evening. He hails from the countryside of Damascus province and is one of the investors in the Rayhan Restaurant in the countryside of Idlib province, as a result of targeting a Honda car with guided missiles belonging to the US-led international coalition forces on the road to the town of al-Dana in the northern countryside of Idlib, northwest of Syria, by an MQ 9 drone.

On February 15, two people of non-Syrian nationalities working within the Guardians of Religion Organization were killed as a result of targeting a car they were riding in on the Aleppo-Latakia road near the town of Orem al-Jawz in the western countryside of Idlib, northwest of Syria.

It is noteworthy that this incident comes after a similar incident that occurred on January 15, 2025, when two people were killed in an airstrike launched by international coalition aircraft on a car carrying them in the town of "Sarmada" in the northern Idlib countryside. Local sources said at the time that the two dead were "Mohammed Fayyad Al-Dhaiban and Nayef Hamoud Aliwi", who were previously members of the "Islamic State" organization and then joined the "Guardians of Religion" organization.
