🔴 The official said: With the blessing of Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri and coordination with the coalition countries
🔴 His statement is understood as the beginning of a division and unilateral conditions on the state and the Syrians.
In a gathering that included dozens of people from Sweida province, the "Military Council" announced the launch of its work at the Kafr al-Zira'i Airport, south of the city, and revealed a "national project" in coordination with political and revolutionary forces. Video clips published by the council's pages showed a crowd of fighters raising the Syrian flag and banners of the Druze Unitarian sect.
Aspirations towards decentralization despite the state
Tariq al-Shoufi, the leader of the Military Council, read a statement in which he explained the visions and directions of the council. Al-Shoufi confirmed that the council's project is "national" and stems from organizing cooperation between the armed forces in the local community, with the blessing of Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri and coordination with the coalition countries; He revealed the formation of a nucleus of defected military personnel, calling on military forces to join his "national" project.
Al-Shoufi explained that the council seeks to achieve "the requirements of protecting society, national and regional security, and protecting the southern borders," adding that the council aspires to be part of "the national army of the new Syrian state, a state of modernity, equal citizenship, and human rights," but he stressed his vision of a "decentralized, secular, democratic state."
Despite referring to the "national army of the new Syrian state," the council's focus on "decentralization" raises questions about the nature of its relationship with this army, and whether it seeks to fully engage in it, or whether it prefers to maintain its independence within the framework of a decentralized state, which the Syrian people reject.
The military council, which was formed after the fall of the Assad regime, is active in several villages in the southern countryside of Sweida, and local groups in villages and towns such as Al-Ghariyah and Baka have announced their joining it.
Syrian activists asked the state to take effective steps, whether peacefully or by war, to prevent any attempt to divide the country and make it dependent on foreign powers. The coming days are important to consolidate the state and prevent groups that do not represent the Syrians from dividing the country on a sectarian basis.
