Rebels pound Hezbollah bastions in Bekaa, casualties reported


(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 14 rebel fighters Syria and 8 Hezbollah militants were killed Sunday in fierce clashes Sunday in eastern Lebanon, Lebanese media reported.

Zaman al-Wasl reporter said rebel factions intensify offensive on the Shiite militant group bastions in Bekaa valley near the Lebanese-Syrian borders, inflecting humiliating defeat on Hezbollah.

The real death toll is not revealed by Hezbollah to keep its fighters morale high, the reporter said.

Pro-regime news agency, Xinhua reported citing the security source, “Violent clashes erupted when fundamentalist gunmen from Syria launched an attack on a Hezbollah post in the outskirts of the Bekaa town.”

The gunmen infiltrated to Lebanon from the Qalamoun region in Syria and clashed with Hezbollah on the outskirts of Brital, INAS reported.

Hezbollah brought additional reinforcements and managed to repel the attack, while the Lebanese army announced an alert in its positions in Brital after the zone of clashes expanded to Younine in the outskirts of Baalbak, the source said.

It said that the clashes that continued for few hours resulted in the killing of Mohammad Khaled Hamze known as Abu Soheib, who is a leader in the al-Nusra Front, IANS said.
