Government calls on international oil companies to return to Syria

The Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources called on oil companies that were operating in Syria to return, welcoming the suspension of European sanctions, the Syrian News Agency reported on Wednesday.

Ghiath Diab said, "We welcome the European Union's decision to lift sanctions on the energy sector in Syria, which came in light of the historical developments that Syria is witnessing after the fall of the former regime."

He added that "the European Union's decision to lift sanctions represents a positive step towards rebuilding the national economy and enhancing stability in Syria, as the energy sector is one of the main pillars that can contribute to the reconstruction of Syria."

Diab called on companies that were previously working in the oil sector to return to Syria and contribute to the development of this vital sector with their expertise and investments, which will play an important role in achieving development and advancing the oil and gas sector.

He expressed his confidence that Syria, with its rich resources and the will of its people, will regain its position in the energy sector, overcoming all current difficulties and challenges.
