Sweida: One child killed and 4 displaced injured; Residents condemn

A child was killed and four others were injured in a shooting by a local group targeting a camp for displaced people in the southern countryside of Sweida province, the local Suwayda 24 website reported on Monday.

Local sources said, that the incident occurred near the town of Al-Tha'la after a citizen was beaten by individuals believed to be residents of the displaced camp, after which his relatives launched an armed attack, randomly shooting at the camp.

The attack resulted in the death of a child and the injury of four other people, originally of Hasakah province.

The incident sparked anger among the residents of the area, with calls escalating from them to hold the perpetrators involved in this attack accountable, especially since it comes amid tensions in the southern region  with a Druze majority and after fears of an armed conflict threatening civil peace after the Netanyahu government's public pledge to protect the Druze of Syria.

According to the Suwayda 24, social and security activists demanded the need to take deterrent measures against any form of chaos or violence in the area.

In a related context, a similar incident occurred the day before yesterday, Sunday, when four people, most of them from one family, were killed in an armed attack near the large Hayalin mosque in Sweida. The attack, which came against the backdrop of an old vendetta, sparked a wave of condemnation among the residents of the province.

Violence continues in several areas of Syria, especially in areas with a large presence of displaced people from different regions.

Recently, random shootings and incidents related to vendettas have escalated, reflecting the weakness of security control in some Syrian areas.
