The Syrian Ministry of Information warned on Sunday of systematic attempts by hostile parties aimed at creating chaos and destabilizing the country.
The ministry confirmed in a statement that attempts had been monitored to circulate old photos and video clips on social media, some of which date back to previous years and others taken from outside the country, as if they were current events on the Syrian coast.
The ministry called on citizens to be fully aware and not to be drawn into misleading news that aims to distort facts and dismantle the social fabric, and to rely on official sources to obtain accurate information.
The ministry also alerted Arab and Western media outlets to the importance of dealing accurately and credibly with current events, stressing the need to avoid falling into the trap of rumors that are being pumped through social media in an escalating and systematic manner.
