Certainly, what was committed on the Syrian coast constitutes a horrific violation against civilians, as innocent people of all sects, including Alawites and Sunnis, were killed. What happened brings to mind the crimes committed in recent years and evokes the pain inflicted by the former regime for 14 years.
The Syrian government bears a significant portion of moral responsibility, as the guarantor of civil peace. Although we are convinced that no direct orders were issued by the leadership to kill civilians, the lack of sufficient control places it in a position of clear moral accountability.
The greater part of the criminal responsibility lies with the remnants of the Assad regime, who committed documented massacres, some of which they admitted to in audio and video recordings. Among these is a video of the criminal Muqdad Fathiyeh, who explicitly vowed to "take revenge on the incubator of the former regime," as he called it.
Zaman al-Wasl compared dozens of photos showing members of these remnants wearing full-color General Security uniforms, confirming their involvement in these crimes and implicating the General Security.
Some undisciplined factions have engaged in field killings, including the execution of captured and disarmed members of the remnants, as well as the killing of civilians (particularly men, with no documented evidence of women or children being killed to date).
These violations were committed directly, beyond the mere discovery of bodies; there is evidence confirming these groups' responsibility for the killings.
We cannot ignore what happened on the public roads between Tartus and Latakia, where civilian vehicles were stopped and civilians killed in the field. These crimes have been acknowledged by these remnants on more than one occasion.
We must adhere to the Syrian state, support the National Fact-Finding Commission, and work diligently to protect civil peace. The Syrian people continue to suffer from the legacy of torture, bombing, and arson perpetrated by the Assad regime and its militias for more than a decade.
Any foreign intervention will not serve the interests of the people; rather, it will serve international agendas and transnational groups.
As for Russia, it plays a tactic, sometimes supporting the government and sometimes flirting with the remnants, according to testimonies documented by Zaman al-Wasl.
Finally, there has been no evidence to date of any rapes, and all the rumors in this regard are not based on any reliable evidence.
Let's not forget the sponsored cyberattack on social media, which aims to incite a complex sedition in Syria. It is supported by fabricated images of massacres committed by the regime years ago, and republished as if they were from the coastal massacre.
