145,000 Syrians have returned from Turkey since Assad fall

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz announced that 145,639 Syrian refugees have returned to their country since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024.

Yilmaz noted in a post on the X platform that the total number of Syrian returnees reached 885,642 people from 2017 to March 2025, according to data from the Turkish Migration Management Presidency.

According to Turkish officials, the voluntary return movement began years ago, but its pace accelerated significantly after the collapse of the Assad regime, as many refugees preferred to return to northern Syria.

Yilmaz explained that the number of returnees is expected to increase in the coming months, especially with the gradual improvement in the security situation, the availability of basic services, and the reconstruction taking place in Syrian cities.
