EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kallas called for moving forward with lifting sanctions imposed on Syria since the ousted Assad regime.
This came in a statement to reporters ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday.
Kallas said in this context: "The European Union must provide more support to Syria, in cooperation with regional partners. We are working to strengthen efforts to lift sanctions."
She noted that today's meeting of EU foreign ministers will discuss the latest developments in Syria and the violent events that occurred on March 6 on the Syrian coast.
In this context, the European official expressed her deep concern about the violence that occurred on the Syrian coast between security forces and remnants of the collapsed Bashar al-Assad regime.
