Druze powerful cleric rejects constitutional declaration

Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Syria, rejected the "constitutional declaration" issued by the new Syrian administration on Tuesday, considering it "a dictatorial declaration that grants absolute powers to one person and establishes a new authoritarian authority."

In a statement, al-Hijri stressed the need to draft a new constitutional declaration based on participatory democracy, ensuring the participation of all segments of the Syrian people in its formulation, while respecting the country's cultural and historical specificity and human rights.

He also called for a comprehensive national conference with the participation of all governorates, warning against the continued policy of unilateral decision-making and rejecting any attempts to impose a fait accompli without popular consensus.

In his statement, Sheikh al-Hijri denounced what he described as the "crimes and violations" that occurred in Homs and the Syrian coast, demanding that those responsible be held accountable. He emphasized that anyone who kills his own people is a traitor, whether under the previous regime or under the current administration.

At the end of his statement, he affirmed his continued outstretched hand for dialogue and efforts to achieve stability, calling for respect for the will of the people and ensuring Syria's transition from chaos to a secure, democratic future.
