Syrian govt, SDF meet in Hasakah countryside

The first round of meetings between a delegation from the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was held on Wednesday at the military base in the city of Al-Shaddadi in the Hasakah countryside, northeastern Syria.

The Syrian government delegation was headed by former Deir ez-Zor Governor Hussein Salama, while the SDF delegation was headed by Mazloum Abdi.

The meetings lasted for two hours and were described as preliminary to subsequent meetings. They included three sessions, the last of which was between the government delegation and an American team, without the participation of the SDF delegation.

During the meeting, the American team emphasized to the Syrian government delegation their commitment to the highest levels of cooperation to achieve peace in Syria.

Informed sources told Zaman al-Wasl that the atmosphere at the meetings was positive, and the government team left Hasakah after the meetings concluded.

The American team called on the SDF to strengthen its relations with the Syrian government as part of efforts to achieve stability in the region.

On March 10, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander Mazloum Abdi signed a historic agreement to integrate Kurdish forces into the institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic. This is a significant step toward strengthening Syria's territorial integrity and rejecting attempts at partition.
