Zaman al-Wasl obtained the archives of the National Defense Forces, the pro-Assad militia. The documents reveal thousands of names of fighters officially classified as "deceased" in internal reports – in the capital, Damascus, alone.
The documents indicate that the victims were not only those arrested in Damascus; the lists also included detainees brought from various Syrian provinces without any legal procedures or official notification to their families. This reflects the scale of the organized crime targeting Syrian detainees over the years.
This document represents one example of the tens of thousands of documents still being analyzed and verified within the leaked archive.
As part of the ongoing efforts of the Zaman al-Wasl Initiative to document crimes of enforced disappearance, the Investigative Team will continue to analyze this data and publish it to the public, out of loyalty to the victims of repression and enforced disappearance, and out of a desire to uncover the truth for the local and international community.
