Syrian security authorities announced on Friday that they were pursuing prisoners who escaped from a prison in the northern Aleppo countryside. They staged a "state of rebellion," during which they managed to breach the walls and briefly seize control of the prison before security forces intervened and re-established control.
Director of Public Security Mohammed Abdul Ghany, said the security services received a report Friday morning of a rebellion inside the prison, during which a number of prisoners seized weapons and detained several security personnel.
Abdul Ghany added that the prison was not under the control of the Ministry of Interior, without revealing who was responsible. He noted that authorities acted quickly and were able to regain control of the facility and arrest a number of prisoners, while others remain at large.
Security services confirmed that they are continuing their search and pursuit operations to apprehend the escaped prisoners and bring them before the relevant judiciary, warning against any attempts to conceal their whereabouts.
