The Syrian General Security Service arrested Samer Jassem al-Mohamad, who served as deputy head of the Information Branch of the State Security Service in Deir ez-Zor governorate, on Saturday.
The governorate's official Telegram channel stated that al-Muhammad served as deputy head of the Information Branch.
Al-Mohamad is one of the most prominent State Security officers in the region, having held sensitive positions in recent years, particularly in cases related to the persecution and arrest of dissidents. Local reports indicate his involvement in human rights violations, including torture and ill-treatment inside security headquarters.
