In 2013, while working on a farm cutting firewood, Hussein Abdo Qarajah, a native of the village of Al-Matras in the Safita countryside, was arrested by a group of shabiha led by Basil Breidi, with the participation of pro-Assad militants from Ain al-Sahen and neighboring villages.
Hussein had no political activity; he was simply a simple farmer seeking his daily livelihood. However, the regime's brutal security campaign at that time targeted Sunni-majority villages en masse, and Hussein was one of its victims.
From the moment of his arrest, he disappeared completely, and his family received no official information about his whereabouts or fate. His name appeared in the arrest files and leaked photos published by Zaman al-Wasl in the "Death Vaults" file, which documented the presence of detainees in the hands of the National Defense militias and their exposure to liquidation or disappearance.
