Syria to restructure embassies and diplomatic missions: Foreign Minister

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani announced on Tuesday the launch of a comprehensive process to restructure Syrian embassies and diplomatic missions abroad.

The minister explained on his official Twitter account that this decision came in accordance with directives from President Ahmad al-Shara, noting that the goal is to ensure honorable representation of the Syrian Arab Republic in the international arena.

As part of this process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the dismissal of Syria's ambassadors to Moscow and Riyadh and their transfer to the central administration in Damascus.

An official source in the ministry confirmed, according to SANA news agency on Monday, that the decision comes within the framework of the ministry's diplomatic reshuffle, with the chargé d'affaires tasked with managing the affairs of the two embassies until official replacements are appointed.

The source added that the ministry is currently conducting a comprehensive review of the status of Syrian missions abroad, and that decisions will soon be issued to develop these missions in line with the aspirations of the Syrian people.

He also clarified that amending the legal status of the Syrian mission in New York is a technical measure and does not reflect a change in US policy.

Meanwhile, former Syrian diplomats have criticized the continued appointment of some diplomats from the former regime, arguing that these individuals remain loyal to the old regime, which could undermine the efficiency of diplomatic work.
