No coup against defense ministry in Daraa countryside: Security source

A security source in the southern province of Daraa confirmed Thursday that reports of a coup against the Ministry of Defense are completely false.

The source explained to Al-Watan newspaper this evening that the incident in the city of Busra al-Sham resulted from a previous dispute between local figures, which escalated into gunfire from one party to the other.

The source indicated that security and police forces are making great efforts to control the security situation and arrest the aggressor in a manner consistent with the public interest.

Also in the southern region, the head of the Izraa detachment in Daraa, Diaa al-Qarali, confirmed that Public Security patrols in Izraa carried out a successful raid on a suspicious warehouse between Daraa and Atman, based on accurate information and ongoing investigations. Quantities of rockets and mortar shells stored for trafficking were seized, while those involved fled before the security forces arrived, according to SANA.

Al-Qarali added that this operation is part of the ongoing efforts of the Public Security services to protect the safety of citizens and ensure stability in the region.
