A document issued by the Damascus Endowments Directorate on February 2, 2025, revealed the complete dismissal of Sheikh Muhammad Yusuf Khorshid, imam and preacher of Al-Huda Mosque in the Mezzeh neighborhood of Damascus, from his religious duties and the banning of him from holding or participating in any religious activity inside Damascus mosques.
The dismissal decision came after "examining what was circulated," according to the document. This is a bureaucratic expression that conceals more serious information, especially since Zaman al-Wasl was able to obtain a security card issued by the National Defense Militia bearing Khorshid's name and photo, confirming his official membership in the militia.
This document raises a legitimate and serious question: How many clerics are affiliated with the National Defense Militia without anyone knowing about them?
It is noteworthy that the dismissal decision also included Ibrahim Danoun, imam of the Afridun al-Ajami Mosque in the Shaghour area, reinforcing the hypothesis of a broader network of clerics linked to the militias under the cover of the official religious establishment.
