Mass grave discovered near Homs-Tartous highway

A mass grave was discovered in the al-Buqay'a area in the Homs countryside, on the Homs-Tartous highway. The grave contains the remains of dozens of people, believed to be civilians who went missing during the years of conflict, including children and women.

The al-Buqay'a area is one of the most prominent areas where enforced disappearances and arbitrary arrests of hundreds of residents were recorded under the control of regime forces and allied militias.

The Syrian Social Nationalist Party and its militia, known as the "Eagles of the Whirlwind," were heavily active in the area, particularly during the years of widespread security and military escalation.

Activists and human rights activists believe the grave contains victims of field executions or those who died under torture in nearby detention centers. The families of the missing are demanding an independent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the crime, identify the victims, and hold those responsible accountable.

This crime brings to the fore the issue of mass graves and the widespread violations documented by human rights organizations across Syria, amid the continued absence of justice and accountability.
