Syria warns against any call for foreign intervention

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani warned on Thursday that any foreign interference in the country's affairs, under any pretext, will only lead to "further division and decades-long devastation."

In tweets posted on the X platform, al-Sheibani stated that: "The experiences of the region and the world bear witness to the high cost of foreign interventions... They are often built at the expense of national interests and serve agendas that do not represent the aspirations of the Syrian people."

Al-Sheibani emphasized that those calling for foreign intervention bear a historical, moral, and political responsibility toward the Syrian people. He emphasized that the solution in Syria lies through "national dialogue and effective participation under the umbrella of full sovereignty." He considered that "national unity and the rejection of sectarianism are essential to protecting the Syrian social fabric."

The Syrian Foreign Minister's statements came after a call by Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, one of the sheikhs of the Druze community, in which he called on the international community to urgently intervene to protect members of the Druze community. He strongly criticized the Syrian government and emphasized that "seeking international protection is a legitimate right for a people decimated by massacres."

In the same context, Al-Shaibani noted that a Syrian government delegation visited New York and Washington and participated in talks with US officials. He praised the "constructive discussions that took place regarding Syria's future." He said, "We appreciate the US administration's facilitation of this visit. We emphasized the need to completely lift sanctions and allow Syrians to live in dignity and freedom." He described the meeting as "an important milestone in restoring Syria's regional and international standing," emphasizing that Damascus is open to the world "on the basis of mutual respect and common interests."
